IBPS PO Selection Procedure – Complete Guide
IBPS PO Prelims Exam
This is the first phase of IBPS PO Exam 2017. IBPS PO Prelims 2017 is scheduled to be held on 7th, 8th 14th and 15th October 2017 tentatively. There is no change in exam pattern of Prelims Exam of IBPS PO. Prelims exam is an objective type of test, which will consist of 100 questions. There are only 3 sections and the time duration given to solve these 100 question is 60 Minutes.

Candidates should know that Prelims exam is only of qualifying nature, which means marks obtained in Prelims exam will be not added anywhere else. Candidates are required to secure the minimum cut off marks decided by IBPS in all three sections as well as overall. Marks obtained by you in Prelims Exam will not be considered in the interview or the final selection or allotment for IBPS PO post.
IBPS PO Mains Exam
Mains exam is the second and very important stage of the IBPS PO Recruitment 2017 and it holds the utmost importance in IBPS PO selection procedure. The candidates who will crack IBPS PO Prelims 2017 i.e. who will secure sectional, as well as an overall cut-off in Prelims Exam, will be shortlisted for the next Stage of IBPS PO Exam i.e. Mains Examination 2017. The tentative date for the commencement of IBPS PO Mains 2017 is 26th November 2017.
The exam pattern of Mains Examination of IBPS PO has been drastically changed in 2017. Last year in 2016 IBPS introduced the sectional timing, which means you can not skip to any section as per your choice. Now this year IBPS has done major changes, which are as follows :
- The separate computer awareness section is now eliminated from the IBPS PO Mains Examination. Just like SBI, now the computer aptitude questions will be asked in the Reasoning Section itself.
- There are major changes in marking of sections, the number of questions, time limits of sections , maximum marks as well as in overall time limit. The total time is 3 hours now for the completion of the objective test. The total number of questions has been reduced to 155 by IBPS this year.
- IBPS has introduced Descriptive test from this year. The descriptive test is a test of English language of candidates in which two questions of Letter Writing and Essay Writing will be asked. Immediately after the 3 hours of the objective test, the descriptive test will start on the computer screen of candidates. The total time allotted to complete descriptive test is 30 Minutes.

The candidates who will secure sectional cut off in each section and also the overall cutoff for IBPS PO Mains 2017 decided by IBPS will get entry into next stage i.e. Interview.It is important to perform well in Mains examination because marks obtained in Mains exam carry the maximum weight age in the final selection for the IBPS PO post.
Note: There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in both the stages i.e. Prelims and Mains. There will be a deduction of 0.25 marks for each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, then no marks will be deducted for that question.
IBPS PO Interview Round
This is the third and the last stage for the selection of candidates for the IBPS PO post. Candidates who got qualified in the Mains Examination will be required to appear for a face to face interview.
The total marks allotted for Interview are 100. The minimum marks which are required to qualify for this round is 40 (For general) out of 100 and 35 for OBC/SC/ST/PWD candidates.
In stage 3, the candidates are required to face an interview with a panel of bank officials. Interviews are conducted at certain places across the country. The shortlisted candidates will get all the information regarding the venue of the interview and other required information in their Interview Call Letter.
IBPS PO Final Selection
IBPS prepares the final merit list of the selected candidates on the basis of marks obtained in Mains Examination and Interview round. The merit list is prepared based on the combined scores of Mains examination anD interview round. The weightage of Marks obtained in the Main examination is more than the weightage of Marks obtained in interview round. The weightage of online Main Examination and Interview will be 80:20 respectively to arrive at the final score.
The final cut off will be released by IBPS for different categories on a particular date. Those candidates who secure the final cut-off will be selected for the post of Probationary officer in one of the Participating banks. The final cutoff is decided on the basis of Vacancies available as well as the maximum marks obtained by any candidate
IBPS PO Provisional Allotment
The name of allotted bank will be mentioned in the final result of the candidate, if the candidate has secured more than or equal to the minimum final cutoff marks.The allocation is done on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate. At first, the bank will be allotted to those candidates who have secured high cutoff as compared to other candidates. The Participating banks are allotted to the candidate as per the availability of the seats in the banks and as per preference marked by the candidate. There is an allocation software which is designed to check the availability of seats in the first preference bank marked by the candidate. If a seat is available, that bank will be allotted to that candidate otherwise allocation software will check for the next preferences marked by the candidate respectively.
